Resolving New Testament Disputes Using Old Testament Picture
In many cases, the most hotly-debated New Testament theology can be settled simply by examining Old Testament pictures of these matters. New Testament concepts like the existence and timing of the Rapture of the Church and the Tribulation are represented in stories from the Old Testament, so that by paying attention to the Jewish customs embedded in these stories, we gain a proper understanding of New Testament theology. Pastor Steve shows how this principle operates, including offer several examples.
Arrogance Toward the Root: Common doctrinal errors arising from misunderstanding of Israel
An improper understanding of Israel and the covenants leads to poor theology. Pastor Steve shows how several examples of improper New Testament theology grew out of misunderstanding of God’s relationship with Israel, the Church’s relationship with Israel, or from misapplied aspects of the Jewish covenants.
Romanticizing Judaism: Paul’s View of the Messianic Movement
Today it’s become fashionable to “return to our roots” whether in culture, ancestry or religious practices. Within Christendom, we find a growing interest among Gentile believers in a “Messianic” movement. In small communities around the world, Gentile believers have resurrected aspects of the Law and adopted carious Jewish culture and tradition claiming such practices bring them closer to the heart of God for His people. This is romanticizing an unnecessary and unbiblical lifestyle, which has the potential to erode the Gospel of grace. Pastor Steve goes to Scripture to hear what the Apostle Paul thought of such things.
