A new year gives us a fresh start and no matter how cynical we are we can’t help but be infected by that renewed sense of purpose. This year my resolution is to be poor.
And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love G-d, to those who are called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28) What is the "good" promised here?
As our year draws to a close and we contemplate New Year's resolutions and the like, let's not forget to consider our eternal priorities...
Does Scripture teach that we are to obey God for ourselves, so we can be happy? Does it teach that we are to worship God for ourselves, and not for God? More false teaching from the Osteens.
As a teenager growing up, I remember my parents' frequent complaining over my need for instant gratification. They counseled me on the importance of self-discipline and delayed satisfaction, and they warned of the dangers of imprudence and impatience. Naturally, I responded the way most teenagers do...I ignored my parents and took (nearly) every opportunity to indulge my flesh. Today, instant gratification is no longer considered a vice for Christians – it's become a lifestyle!
Jerry sat staring at his laptop screen in unbelief. "Fourteen hundred dollars?!? Where am I going to get fourteen hundred dollars? This stupid software was supposed to make sure you got a big fat refund on your taxes not a giant bill!"

Yesterday, while making a sandwich, I saw the evidence of Paul’s Romans 7 struggle worked out in me physically. My flesh apparently thought that I had been a bit skimpy with the spread, while the Spirit within believed that, although all things are permissible, one swipe of the white wonder was plenty. I watched with detached objectivity as the conflict worked itself out bodily.
