On Law and Liberty - Part I

July 31, 2009

When Moses stepped off Mt. Horeb carrying the stone tablets of the Law, he descended into a scene of debauchery within the Jewish camp. Aaron had failed miserably in his appointed role as shepherd over the recently emancipated Jewish tribes, and on his watch the people had forsaken their Lord for a golden calf they fashioned with their own hands.

On Law and Liberty - Part II

July 30, 2009

In the first part of my essay on Law and Liberty, I explained how we are never under more than one law at a times in God's economy.  Before we go further in examining the nature of our new Law under Christ, it’s important to understand that the law it replaces is a single entity in scripture.

The Road to Idolatry – Ecumenism and Morality

July 29, 2009

In 1994, several well-known Christians signed a document with leaders of the Roman Catholic Church (RCC) called “Evangelicals and Catholics Together," or ECT for short.  Much has been written about this unholy union that does not need repeating here, but one of the motivations for ECT was that the RCC agrees with Christians on many “moral” issues (e.g., abortion, homosexuality, etc.).

My dialog with a Catholic

July 29, 2009

In our teaching ministry, we spend considerable time teaching one-on-one through e-mail exchanges. Occasionally, we have an opportunity to exchange e-mail with people from other religious faiths and traditions. Today, I want to share with you one such exchange between myself and a spokesperson for the Catholic archdiocese of a major U.S. city, who I will call "Nancy."

A warning for Christians who continue in sin?

Did Jesus say we can lose our salvation?

July 20, 2009

In Luke 12:45-46, Jesus tells a story of a man who says "My Master is delaying his coming," and Jesus responds by saying He will "appoint him a portion with the unbelievers." Can you clarify this? It sounds as if Jesus is saying that a believer can lose salvation.

The megachurch phenomenon (Part 2)

July 10, 2009

In my introduction, I noted that the term megachurch refers to the size of the congregation, not the size of a building, but since large congregations require large buildings, this definition begs a question. Which came first, the large congregation or the large facility to hold the people?

Was John the Baptist confused about Jesus’ identity?

July 09, 2009

In Luke 7 it says that John the Baptist asked if Jesus was the One they were waiting for, but back in Chapter 5 when John baptizes Jesus, it says that the heavens opened, the Holy spirit descended like a dove and the Father spoke.  It sounds like this happened within a few moments of Jesus being baptized, so wouldn’t John have seen this and heard this and therefore known who Jesus was?
